Location: São José dos Campos, in-person
Reports To: R&D Program Manager
We are seeking a Junior Electronics Engineer (Avionics) to join our Drone Division at Modirum | Gespi in São José dos Campos, Brazil.
In this role, you will contribute to the design, development, and integration of avionics systems for UAVs. You will work in a multidisciplinary environment, collaborating with hardware, software, and systems engineering teams to deliver high-quality solutions that meet international standards.
This position focuses on applied R&D: turning concepts into prototypes, supporting system integration, and ensuring robust performance in real-world conditions. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in electronics, with hands-on experience in PCB lay-out, microcontrollers, power systems, and simulation.
You will also support flight test campaigns.
Support the development of UAV electronic systems, including battery management systems (BMS), power distribution units, power electronics modules, telemetry and communication systems, flight controllers, and payload integration (e.g., gimbals, sensors, and mission payloads).
Develop and maintain firmware for embedded systems, such as STM-32–based controllers, BMS units, telemetry devices, and communication interfaces (I²C, SPI, UART, CAN).
Conduct hardware validation tests, including load tests on power electronics, endurance tests on batteries and BMS, thermal stress tests, EMI/EMC evaluations, and integration testing of avionics subsystems.
Execute software and firmware tests: e.g. unit testing, hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) simulation, regression testing, and flight-readiness validation.
Select electronic components (ICs, sensors, connectors, power modules, etc.), evaluate suppliers, and support procurement through technical discussions with vendors.
Propose and run simulations to validate electronic designs before prototyping.
Document test procedures, results, and design iterations, ensuring traceability and compliance with engineering standards.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams (mechanical, aeronautical, software, and systems engineers) to integrate avionics solutions into UAV platforms.
Write technical reports.
Support flight tests.
Other job-related duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field.
Proficiency in PCB layout and schematic design.
Experience with PSpice or equivalent circuit simulation software.
Hands-on knowledge of STM-32 microcontrollers and embedded systems.
Good understanding of batteries and battery management systems (BMS).
Programming skills in C and C++.
Ability to work in a collaborative, multidisciplinary R&D environment.
English for technical reading and professional collaboration.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills to present technical findings and results clearly.
Experience with power electronics design.
Exposure to radio frequency (RF) systems.
Knowledge of UAV or aerospace systems.
Familiarity with embedded Linux or real-time operating systems (RTOS).
Experience with prototyping, testing, and debugging electronic systems.
Interest in emerging technologies in drones, autonomy, or defence applications.
Familiarity with digital communication protocols (I²C, SPI, UART, CAN).
At Modirum Gespi, we foster a culture of innovation and technical excellence. You’ll be working with a talented team, solving complex challenges, and contributing to cutting-edge aerospace technologies. If you meet the requirements, are passionate about aerospace, and want to make a real impact, we’d love to hear from you!
