Open position: Aerospace/Mechanical Engineer – Mechanical & Propulsion Systems

Job Title: Aerospace/Mechanical Engineer – Structural Design & Materials (Mid-career)
Location: São José dos Campos, SP, Brazil
Reports To: R&D Program Manager
About the Role:
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Aerospace/Mechanical Engineer to join our Drone Division at Modirum Gespi in São José dos Campos, Brazil.
In this role, you will be responsible for the design, analysis, and optimization of both new and existing mechanical and propulsion systems. This is an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies, collaborating with cross-functional teams to develop innovative products.
You’ll be expected to deliver high-quality technical solutions that meet international standards. You’ll collaborate with both local and international colleagues and partners in a multidisciplinary environment.
This position will involve designing advanced aircraft mechanical systems and integrating sophisticated propulsion systems, including conventional, hybrid, and electric configurations. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with mechanical design methods, calculation procedures, and a deep understanding of noise, vibration, and thermodynamics in aerospace systems. Must be familiar with electrical propulsion systems and flight control systems (mechanisms).
You will be the focal point for the mechanical physics (mechanisms, noise, vibration, thermodynamics) and propulsion integration (conventional, hybrid or electric).
You will also support flight test campaigns.
Key Responsibilities:
-
Analyze aircraft mission requirements and develop detailed product specifications.
-
Design and optimize mechanical systems ensuring compliance with national and international regulations across various operational environments.
-
Propose and conduct tests (both physical and simulated) for design validation; participate in ground and flight test campaigns.
-
Lead the design and integration of propulsion systems, including engines, turbines, motors, and related components.
-
Serve as the primary point of contact for aircraft propulsion systems and mechanical physics (e.g., mechanisms, noise, vibration, thermodynamics).
-
Collaborate closely with manufacturing and other engineering teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical and propulsion systems
-
Communicate and collaborate effectively with both local and international partners, as well as multidisciplinary teams.
-
Document design processes, test results, and analysis findings, and contribute to engineering reports and technical papers
Qualifications (must have):
-
Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
-
Strong knowledge of mechanical physics, including thermodynamics, noise, vibration, solid and fluid dynamics, and mechanical systems integration.
-
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work well in a team-oriented environment.
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills to present technical findings and results clearly.
-
Fluent in English (for international collaboration).
Desirable Skills (nice to have):
-
At least 5 years of hands-on experience in mechanical or propulsion systems design, analysis, and integration for aerospace applications (aircraft, drones, or related fields).
-
Experience in integrating propulsion systems into unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs).
-
Familiarity with advanced propulsion technologies, including conventional engines, electric motors, and hybrid systems, as well as in-service requirements.
-
Understanding of how aerodynamics and structures interact with the propulsion system.
-
Strong understanding of industry standards and regulatory requirements.
-
Experience in the drone industry.
-
Familiarity with prototyping processes and techniques.
